Some
New Year's Thoughts
As
I write this, 2001 is drawing to a close and the Mac Design
digital camera shootout deadline is upon me. I found myself
in the unenviable position of having too many cameras at the
last minute - one each from Nikon, Olympus and Casio. With
five cameras behind me, my mind is beginning to fuzz over |
A
Little Help With The 2002 Shootout, Please
Well,
it's time again to work on Mac Design's annual digital camera
shootout. We've already tested the four of the eight and my
editor, Barbara Thompson, has contacted Canon, Minolta, Nikon,
Fuji, Sony, Olympus, and Toshiba about supplying their top-end
prosumer 4 megapixel to 5 megapixel cameras. |
A
Digital Neighborhood Surprise
Museums
and photo galleries are slowly accepting digital photography.
Of course, it helps if the term giclée is used to describe
prints. The inkjet printer in its wonderful array of quality.
Higher camera resolutions. More sophisticated use of Photoshop.
These are all reasons for the surge in gallery interest in
digital. |
Put
An Optio In Your Pocket
As
a photojournalist, I've always been a writer who photographs
rather than a photographer who writes. My penchant for not
wanting to carry a Sherpa-sized gadget bag full of gear has
created a love for small cameras that can accompany the writer
in me at all times. |
Our
Second Annual Holiday Gift List
This
week's column addresses the digital photographer's spouse,
significant whatever, loved one and person with a worried
frown on his or her face. It's the annual Planet Photoshop
Holiday Gift List for Digital Photographers. |
An
Application That Has Me In Stitches
I
first saw Realviz' Stitcher demonstrated at New York's Mac
World Expo. Ken Eyring, Realviz senior technical sales person,
did a great job of putting this amazing application through
its paces. |
Inspiring
Sites And An Inspiring Story
As
habitués of the World Wide Web, we've been inundated
with images from New York on the 11th of September. Scores
of Web producers have put together compilations of photos
taken on that eventful day, often ignoring the copyright of
the photographer. |
G2
- Canon's Upgrade To Its Top Line Consumer Camera
One
of my favorites for the past year has been the Canon Powershot
G1, a camera that has that comfort factor I've discussed in
past columns. Two weeks ago, the Canon G2 arrived for testing
and it has become a new favorite. |
Odds
'n Ends
Just
back from 18 days in Italy and here are some experiences and
responses to earlier columns. Last week's column featured
three portable storage drives and it was my intent to pack
the little Image Bank for the Italian trip. Until the World
Trade Center attack. |
Depth-of-Field:
Wide Angle Lenses
Last week we examined
the nature of depth-of-field. Now let's take a look at how
depth-of-field can be applied practically and creatively. |
