comprehensive Toolbox reference. Click on a tool's icon to

Portrait Toning Adjustments
Sometimes the lighting for an image is just a little bit off. Perhaps it's unbalanced, or there's a shadow, maybe an unwanted highlight... You can use Photoshop's Brush tool to even things up. |
Bleeds and Crop Marks from Photoshop
Page layout programs, such as InDesign, and illustration programs, like Illustrator, can easily handle "bleeds" and can automatically place crop marks. In Photoshop, you can use Print with Preview's crop marks and bleed options, or you can create the crop marks manually. |
Printing
Separations in Color
It's
easy to see individual channels in color in Photoshop's
Channels palette--simply select "Color Channels in
Color" in Preferences> Display & Cursors. But what
if you want to print the channels in color, say as
samples for a screenprinter? |
Select Hair by Using Channels
Selecting fly-away hair can be one of the toughest assignments in Photoshop. The Extract command can be helpful, but sometimes the easiest way to select those random strands of hair is right in your Channels palette. |
Compound
Paths: Creating a Gear
Photoshop's Pen and Shape tools
are incredibly powerful tools, especially when
creating complex compound paths by intersecting
paths. To see how this works, let's create a gear
in Photoshop. |
Color
Picker Versatility
The
vast majority of the time, the vast majority of us use
Photoshop's Color Picker in the default configuration.
Perhaps we use Custom Colors to select a spot color,
but when using the Color Picker itself, we ignore the
eight optional modes. (What? You didn't know that the
Color Picker has different modes?) |
Eliminate
Noise with the Color Replacement Tool
Although
it's not the purpose for which it was designed, the new Color
Replacement tool in Photoshop CS is an incredibly efficient
way to remove digital noise from photos. Paint away noise
quickly and easily! |
Photoshop
Vector Shapes
Last
week, Alexandro Colorado emailed me asking why Photoshop creates
a mask when making shapes with the shape tool. I told him
that I would explain the reason why the best I could. |

7's Brushes Palette: Dynamics
The
heart of Photoshop 7's powerful new paint engine is the Brushes
palette. In this column, we'll take a look at the Color Dynamics
and Other Dynamics panes, as well as the "pane-less"
options at the bottom of the palette. |
Photoshop
7's Brushes Palette: The Texture and Dual Brush Options
As
we continue to explore Photoshop 7's new Brushes palette,
we'll look in this column at the Texture and Dual Brush panes. |
