Flash MX: Using Layer Folders

To create a Layer Folder:

  1. Click the Insert Layer Folder button in the Timeline
  2. Flash will create the new layer folder above the currently selected layer or folder in the timeline.
  3. To add layers to the layer folder, you'll need to first create the layers or drag existing layers into the folder.

The following image displays some of the stage guides I use and keep in the top most layer folder. The red guide is one of several design guides I use to maintain consistent placement between images and text.

I keep all layers inside the Stage Guides layer folder to Guide Layers since I don't want them to be visible when I publish my movie.

Guide Layers

Guide Layers

Content on guide layers won't be visible when the movie is published.

Red Guides

Used to position and space graphics and text on stage. Kept on a guide layer so they aren't visible when the final movie is published
